Who may enter
The competitions are open to photographers from all over the world.

Description
The Sony World Photography Awards are organized annually by World Photography Organisation and sponsored by Sony.

The Sony World Photography Awards has four competitions:

• Professional competition
All entrants must be over 18. The Professional competition is judged on a body of work. Photographers must submit a minimum of five (5) and a maximum of ten (10) images and all submissions must be accompanied by a series description.

• Open competition
The competition is open to anyone. The Open competition rewards outstanding single images across ten (10) categories: Architecture, Culture, Creative, Motion, Landscape, Natural World & Wildlife, Portraiture, Still Life, Street Photography, Travel.

• Youth competition
Photographers aged 12-19 are set monthly challenges. Each photographer can enter up to three single images answering the set challenge per month from June 2019 to December 2019. Judges will select up to 10 images per month, including one winner.

• Student competition
The competition is open to all students of photography from World Photography Organisation’s selected Universities. All entrants must be aged between 18 and 30 years of age. Students are required to submit three (3) – five (5) images responding to a brief. To enter, institutions must be registered and you must give your images to your tutor.

Prizes

1/ Professional competition

• Photographer of the Year – $25,000 (USD) / Sony digital imaging equipment / Included in exhibition at Somerset House, London.
• Category winners – Flights & accommodation to awards ceremony in London / Sony digital imaging equipment / Publication in winners’ book / Included in exhibition at Somerset House, London.
• Finalists – Publication in winners’ book / Included in exhibition at Somerset House, London.
• Shortlist – Digital exhibition at Somerset House, London.

2/ Open competition

• Open Competition winner – $5,000 (USD) / Sony digital imaging equipment / Flights and accommodation to the awards ceremony in London / Included in exhibition at Somerset House, London.
• Category winners – Sony digital imaging equipment / Publication in winners’ book / Included in exhibition at Somerset House, London.
• Shortlist – Digital exhibition at Somerset House, London / Publication in winners’ book.

3/ Youth competition

• Youth Photographer of the Year – Flights and accommodation to awards in London / Sony digital imaging equipment / Included in exhibition at Somerset House, London.
• Monthly judges’ selection – showcased on the World Photography Organisation website and Instagram account.

4/ Student Focus

The ten shortlisted students are each given a Sony camera to shoot a new series of images to answer a second brief. From this work, one overall Student Photographer of the Year is chosen and receives €30,000 worth of Sony digital imaging equipment for his or her institution.
