May 8 is World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day in honor of Henry Dunant. Dunant is the founder of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which was born on May 8th.

World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day in the countries of the world usually begins with Red Cross Week, which lasts until 15 May. During this Week, Red Cross societies around the world will carry out a number of useful activities to acquaint citizens with the workings of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.
The central events in Red Cross Week are most often various competitions where young people show their knowledge and skills in providing first aid, but also a realistic depiction of injuries.
