The legs are the most used part of the body during the day. That is why the legs are usually the most affected and swelling of the ankle or foot occurs in diabetics. Often there is an open wound that heals (slowly) in people with diabetes, an ingrown toenail, blisters on the feet or cracked skin on the heel. These problems can be prevented or at least minimized by risk reduction.
Daily foot control is recommended, which any person can examine with the “naked eye”. Thus, diabetics act independently preventive. All changes visible to the naked eye can be reduced. Keep toenails short and straight. In addition to careful daily skin checks, a patient with diabetes should undergo training for light foot cleaning (maintaining personal daily hygiene) and know foot bath techniques. After bathing your feet, you should apply a powder or cream suitable for diabetics. Thus the skin of the feet will not be dry and cracked but elastic. Foot cream and powder prevent cracking of the skin. This preventive measure is easier to do than to treat cracked skin, which can occur in people with diabetes. The patient should rest frequently and protect the skin in the event of early trauma.
Shoes for people with diabetes should always be light and comfortable without any pressure on individual parts of the foot. Socks should not be tight so as not to tighten and slow down circulation. It is recommended to wear specially made shoes or insoles which will prevent the occurrence of any foot trauma. It is not recommended to sit for a long time so that your legs do not swell. More frequent walking (walking) is preferable. Due to muscle weakness, there may be a restriction of the range of motion in the joints and a decrease in muscle mass. That is why it is recommended to walk more often instead of sitting.
