Classical literary works are novels that should be read at least once in a lifetime, novels that are not forgotten because of literary quality and emotions, and novels that send universal messages (important in every period of time to all generations). That is why such novels are often called timeless written works. Modern literature often relies on novels of this kind.

Jane Eyre (by Charlotte Bronte) – is a Gothic novel written in 1847. The celebrated English writer Charotte Bronte was then among the few female writers. The novel was published under the pseudonym Currer Bell. This love novel became quite successful right at the beginning. After it was discovered that the novel was written by a woman, the novel became better-selling. The novel brought fame to Charlotte Bronte. Bronte became a recognized writer. With her writing, Bronte paved the way for other female authors. Bronte remained a respected writer. Today, she is one of the best women writers of the last century.

Love in the Age of Cholera (by Gabriel Garcia Marquez) – is a novel Colombian writer and Nobel laureate Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The novel was first published in 1985. Florentino Ariza waited more than half a century to repeat the oath of his eternal fidelity and immortal love to Fermini Dazi. Fermina is Florentine’s love from her youth, who has already rejected him once and married someone else. And since then – for a full fifty-one years, nine months and four days, Florentino Ariza has not stopped thinking about her for a single moment.

Anna Karenina (by Leo Tolstoy) is a novel by Russian writer Leo Tolstoy, published in parts from 1873 to 1877. It is the story of a woman who leaves her husband for another man. That resulted in her death. The novel deals with the theme of two marriages. Ana’s marriage ends sadly and Levin’s marriage which, despite the usual stressful situations and quarrels, ends well. The first sentence of the book often quoted is: “All happy families are like each other, every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.”

Gone with the Wind (by Margaret Mitchell) – is the most read book of all time. It is an epic novel about love and war. It is an unforgettable creation of mesmerizing scenes and exciting characters, so alive that we remember their words all our lives and feel their fears and longings. The two main characters are Scarlett O’Hara and Rhett Butler. American writer Margaret Mitchell summed up the timeless story of survival in the most difficult conditions. She created two of the most famous lovers after Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.

The Great Gatsby (by Francis Scot Fitzgerald) – is a novel by the American writer F. Scott Fitzgerald published in 1925. The central figure of the novel is Jay Gatsby. Gatsby is a mysterious young rich man tormented by love problems. The story is told from the perspective of Nick Carraway, his friend. The plot of the novel is set in the so-called crazy twenties of the last century. This post-war period of American society was marked by prohibition, general decadence, and the flourishing of organized crime and illegal business.

In 2013, directed by the famous James Cameron, a film adaptation of “The Great Gatsby” was shot with Leonardon DiCaprio, Carey Mullighan and Joel Edgerton.

An adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Long Island-set novel, where Midwesterner Nick Carraway is lured into the lavish world of his neighbor, Jay Gatsby. Soon enough, however, Carraway will see through the cracks of Gatsby’s nouveau riche existence, where obsession, madness, and tragedy await.
