5 self-help tests to detect the symptoms of “silent” disease

  1. Anemia test – Look inside the lower eyelid in the mirror. The normal color of the inner part of the lower eyelid is a bright pink color. Pale pink and yellow hues indicate anemia. Perform basic blood tests to determine the level of hemoglobin if you feel noticeable increased fatigue and shortness of breath.
  2. Heart and blood vessel test – climb at an accelerated pace to 10-12 steps while speaking (or by phone, or by reciting verses of a song, or humming). If you breathe hard and have a heartbeat after climbing, it means that the lungs and the cardiovascular system cannot cope with the increased effort.
  3. Diabetes test – ask a family member to touch your bare feet alternately with the sharp and blunt end of a pencil. Then say out loud which side a family member / relative is touching while not looking. People who do not feel the difference in touch also have a problem in which tiny nerve endings on the feet function poorly. Decreased sensitivity can mean neuropathy (nerve damage due to diabetes).
  4. Hearing test — sit in a room without making any sounds. Rub the palm of the hand next to the ear with your fingers. You need to hear the sound. Move your hand about 15 cm from your ear and repeat the exercise. Hearing is good if you still hear the sound of friction. Check the hearing of both ears.
  5. Dementia / Senility / Stroke Test – Raise a leg bent at the knees in a standing position. Measure the time. If you last 20 seconds you have no vascular disorders or early dementia. The inability to balance on one leg is often associated with damage to the tiny blood vessels of the brain.
