Children’s classic “The Moomins and The Great Flood” which is still relevant today

The Moomins and The Great Flood (by Tove Jansson) – Finnish writer and famous artist Tove Jansson wrote this book in 1945 during the last months of World War II. This was the first book in which they played Moomins although this book is considered an introductory book for all Moomins. The reason is the fact that most of the characters are presented in the next book. Writer Jansson is one of the most original and respected authors of children’s literature from the 20th century. Writer Jansson has written and illustrated 8 novels and a book of stories about The Moomins. Novels and books have been translated into more than 50 languages ​​worldwide. These books are considered classics of children’s literature today. In this first novel, The Moomins and The Great Flood, The Moomins encounter a number of difficulties (existential insecurity, the disappearance of Moomintate, and the flood). This is, after all, a story of perseverance, optimism and the skill of dealing with adversity. Courage and audacity are crucial in finding a solution. Persistence and willingness to help each other are just complements of the courage and bravery of the heroes of the novel.

The first feature drama film about Tove Jansson ever made was premiered in 2020. The film centers on the formative years when Tove wrote her first Moomin books, fell in love with a woman for the first time and got the first glimpses of the worldwide fame that the Moomins would bring her.

Tove is the untold story of Tove Jansson – artist, lover, author, icon. The film focuses on her formative years in post-war Helsinki, her fight for recognition for her art and the passionate bisexual love affair that was mirrored in the internationally beloved Moomin books.

Moomins on the Riviera (Finnish title: Muumit Rivieralla) is a 2014 Finnish-French animated family comedy film directed by Xavier Picard and produced by Hanna Hemila who is also co-director. The film is based on Moomin comic strips by Tove Jansson and Lars Jansson.

Moomins and The Winter Wonderland (from 2017) is animated adventure comedy movie- Moomintroll decides to stay awake to explore the winter instead of having his winter slumber as usual. Winter is certainly totally different than he had imagined.
