Grapes are one of the oldest plants used by humans. The term “ampelotherapy” comes from the Greek words “ampelos” – grapes and “Therapy” – treatment. Hippocrates spoke long ago about the dietary and therapeutic properties of grapes. Later, these medicinal properties were mentioned by the scientist and encyclopedist Celsus. Grape beans and juice strengthen the metabolism, have a diuretic effect, increase sweat secretion and act as a mild laxative. Grapes increase the secretion of mucus in the respiratory tract and relieve snoring.
Fresh grape juice and medicinal liquid are used for bronchitis. Boil 100 g of raisins in 200 ml of water. Squeeze. Drink the drink several times a day in small sips. Today, grapes are used due to exhaustion and lack of strength, anemia, spring avitaminosis, disorders of lipids and minerals, bronchial asthma and chronic forms of pulmonary tuberculosis. In the diet, this fruit is used against diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, especially due to reduced acidity of gastric juice and constipation, hemorrhoids, gout, liver and kidney diseases, atherosclerosis and the initial stage of hypertension. The effectiveness of long-term use of juice and fruit against functional disorders of cardiovascular diseases and a means of normalizing blood pressure has been scientifically proven. Active treatment is carried out for a month and a half. Grapes and juice are used in equal portions an hour before meals in the morning, during the day and in the evening. Sometimes it is recommended to have a morning meal with grapes and to make the morning portion 100 to 120 grams bigger than other portions. Initially, the daily dose is a maximum of one kilogram and is gradually increased to two kilograms by the end of therapy. Canned grape juice can be used for treatment when one glass is used and the dose is gradually increased to two glasses. It is recommended to use grapes between meals and not to mix this fruit with other types of fruit. During grape therapy, light food should be eaten, i.e. white bread, butter, cheese, eggs, boiled fish and meat. It is necessary to limit the use of other fruits. Milk, raw vegetables, fatty and salty foods, alcoholic beverages, yeast and mineral water should not be used because the combination with grapes strengthens fermentation and leads to impaired intestinal function.
Grape varieties differ in chemical composition of the fruit, although beans from each variety contain sugars sometimes up to 20% more, organic acids, pectins, flavonoids, vitamins B, C, PP and carotene. They are rich in potassium, calcium, magnesium, manganese and cobalt salts and iron salts. Black grapes contain slightly more calories and glucose, which is prevalent among grape sugars compared to green and red grapes. Dark grapes and raisins are richer in natural antioxidant polyphenols, which have a positive effect on immunity and blood vessels by preventing brittleness. Dark grapes and raisins are more aggressive allergens, so people with allergies need to be careful. Grapes are counterinduced in the case of diabetes, obesity, duodenal ulcers during the acute period, chronic purulent processes in the lungs, increased fermentation process and propensity to allergies. People who use blood-thinning drugs should know that the use of grapes reduces the effect of these drugs.
