For a long time, tomatoes were considered inedible and poisonous, so they were used only for decorating dishes. It was not until the 1st century that tomatoes began to be used in the daily diet. In 1811, news emerged that tomatoes in Italy began to be used in dishes with garlic, peppers and butter. It contains about 6.5% sugar, organic acids, primarily citric and malic, potassium salts, phosphorus, iron, carotene, i.e. provitamin A, vitamins B1, B2, P, K. Vitamin C in tomatoes is the same as in lemons and oranges.
The use of tomato juice and fresh fruit is an excellent means of preventing avitaminosis. Only one glass of juice contains about half of the required daily dose of vitamin C and provitamin A. It is desirable to use natural tomato juice. In industrial juice, be sure to check the amounts, i.e. the level of sodium contained, ie to be within the recommended daily dose. Tomato restores the normal functioning of the disturbed metabolism. Include tomatoes in your daily diet if you want to lose 2 to 3 pounds of body weight. This is a low-calorie vegetable that melts fat perfectly. Tomato is a god with lycopene. Recently, a link has been found between the presence of lycopene in the diet and the health of hair. Tomatoes are especially important to use in the postmenopausal period because they prevent osteoporosis.
Organic acids and delicate fiber of fruits increase the secretion of gastric juice and strengthen intestinal peristalsis. That is why tomatoes are used in the diet of patients with gastritis who also have reduced acidity of gastric juice and intestinal atony. Tomato and tomato juice stimulate hematopoiesis, ie the formation of blood cell components, reduce total LDL cholesterol and trilglycerides. The use of tomatoes, juice and peeled tomatoes prevents platelet aggregation and reduces the risk of heart attack.
Many studies have confirmed the anticancer properties of tomatoes. It is a powerful antioxidant with strong anti-inflammatory properties that prevents inflammatory conditions which is necessary to prevent cancer. The oncoprotective substance alpha-tomatin was found in this vegetable, which prevents and destroys cancerous cells. Alpha-tomatin and lycopene are useful against cancer, prostate, lung, breast and pancreas.

It is necessary to drink 2 dcl of fresh tomato juice daily for people who use this juice in the form of medicine. The daily dose should be increased if the person suffers from anemia or sudden blood loss.
Recipe for homemade tomato juice: 6 kg of tomatoes, 4 tablespoons of sugar, 2 tablespoons of salt. Wash the tomatoes and cut them in half. Grind as finely as possible on a meat / tomato mincer. Add salt and sugar and bring the mixture to a boil. Stir constantly so that the mixture does not burn and cook for another 10 minutes after boiling. With constant stirring. Pour hot boiled tomatoes into sterilized bottles. Allow to cool. Keep in a dry and dark place.
Squeezed tomatoes and juice are successfully used in the treatment of purulent wounds and ulcers because they contain phytoncides and have a destructive effect on some types of microbes. Masks of crushed tomatoes are used for cosmetic purposes against porous and flabby facial skin.
