Silicon has an exceptional role in preventing osteoporosis
Silicon, i.e. SI, after the oxygen, takes the second place in terms of distribution on our planet. In the human body, this element is present in insignificant amounts – it makes up about 0.001% of the total mass. The most significant concentrations are found in tissue, bones, hair, the surface layer of the skin and lymph nodes.
Due to the nature of their work, workers who are in constant contact with cement, glass, asbestos and quartz constantly inhale dust saturated with silicon. Excessive silicon content causes increased coughing and difficulty breathing. It can also cause fibrosis and silicosis of the lungs. Excessive cause of this element through food can also be the cause of kidney stones. Although silicon is underrepresented in the body, silicon compounds have an impact on many processes in the body. Silicon strengthens the absorption of calcium, phosphorus, magnesium. It allows the bone tissue to absorb these elements more easily. Silicon stimulates the regeneration of bones, cartilage and connective tissue and at the same time reduces bone fragility by helping to fight osteoporosis. It is important in fractures and other injuries because it contributes to faster recovery. Silicon participates in the transmission of nerve impulses from the brain to organs and tissues. In the case of silicon deficiency, both blood vessels lose their elasticity. Then cholesterol builds up in the blood vessels, the elevated level of which can cause atherosclerosis. Silicon strengthens the condition of the skin, hair, nails, accelerating growth. Due to the deficiency of silicon, the body’s immunity decreases and the metabolism slows down. Because of this important element, a person really loses immunity and his health is impaired.
Herbal products are mostly rich in silicon. The fact is that the compounds of this element, especially silicon dioxide, are an obligatory component of plant cells. Silicon gives strength to plants and is mostly contained in the leaves, while silicon has the least in the roots.
Silicon is found in wholemeal rice, oats and barley porridge, millet. Rye, buckwheat, beans, peas, soy peanuts, beets, cabbage, sunflower seeds, bananas, melons and black currants are also rich in silicon. Nettle lat. Pulmonari officinalis, troskot lat Polygonum aviculare, corn silk lat. Acorus calamus, podbjel lat. Tussilago farfara are medicinal herbs rich in silicon. However, processed products and plants treated with a large amount of mineral fertilizers practically do not have this element.
A daily intake of 6 to 20 mg of this substance should be ensured so that the concentration of silicon in human tissues is constantly at a level. The general need may increase due to osteoporosis, bone fractures and neurological disorders. A balanced diet is sufficient to maintain silicon levels in the body. You should include foods rich in silicon in the menu, drink water with silicon, so the silicon deficiency in the human body will not happen.
