“Eye dryness” syndrome in the era of mass computer use
Every day we listen to people who complain about the problem of dry eyes. Today, in the era of mass use of computers and other devices with monitors, the “dry eye” syndrome is very present. Older people used to have this problem, while today it equally affects all generations, including children. The situation should not get out of control because dry eyes can be reduced and prevented by applying advice.
Eye Dry Syndrome Warning Signs
Lack of tear fluid is manifested by tingling, tingling or itching of the eyes and a feeling of dryness of the eyeball. All these inconveniences are intensified under the influence of smoke, fire, wind, after watching TV, working on a computer and reading. Visual acuity decreases and clarity is lost. One type of gland is responsible for abundant hydration of the cornea (if a person feels bad, has pain, or due to injury – these glands secrete more (up to 3 ml) tear fluid. (About 2 ml per day) The aqueous layer has a number of important tasks: moisturizing and removing dead cells, protecting against bacteria and viruses, supplying the cornea with nutrients, smoothing out bumps on the surface of the cornea.
Eye dryness syndrome occurs due to disturbances in the stability of the tear film. The most common cause is a strong lack of vitamins (especially from group A). In old age, the secretion of fatty secretion, which is an important part of the tear film, also stops. Among the causes are constant and uninterrupted work at the computer, the influence of dust, smoke (including cigarette smoke) and exhaust fumes on the cornea of the eye and the use of contact lenses (on the surface of which accumulates protein from the tear film). Eye dryness and eye surgery and the use of poor quality cosmetics can also cause dry eyes.
Tips to avoid dry eyes
-Elderly people should use vitamin supplements
-younger people who spend 5 or more hours at the computer should take a break every 40-50 minutes. During breaks, it is useful to do special eye exercises.
- Frequent conscious blinking is recommended while working on the computer and while reading. This simple exercise moisturizes and soothes the eyes.
-Eyes should not be rubbed because it can destroy the thinned tear film.
-Try to avoid rooms with a lot of dust and chemicals that irritate the eyes.
Treatment of dry eye syndrome
Artificial tears are used to treat dry eyes. However, experts say that many folk remedies can be effective and efficient.
- Medicinal liquids with chamomyle and calendula help. Rinse your eyes with these herbal teas several times a day.
- Green tea compresses will help deal with dry eyes. Squeeze more warm tea bags lightly and place on the eyelids.
- a solution with honey is useful. Mix honey and boiling water in a ratio of 1: 2. Cool the liquid. Pour 2 drops of cooled solution into the eyes (in each eye) twice a day.
- A popular recipe contributes to the blood supply to the eyes, which is useful due to dry eyes. Grate the same amount of horseradish and onion. Add boiling water to this porridge. Leave for 15 minutes. Then dip a cotton swab in this liquid. Hold on to your eyes for one to two minutes.
