Pizza is the oldest form of fast food and the most popular dish in the world
The forerunner of today’s pizza was a round and flat flat cake from the time of Babylon, Egypt and other ancient cultures. The pizza at the time was more like bread, which is still popular in Greece and other Middle Eastern countries. In ancient Greece and Rome, round pie made of flour and water began to take the form of today’s pizza. In the pre-Renaissance period, the forerunner of pizza was also popular at the foot of Mount Vesuvius near Napoli, where the most important events in the history of the most popular dish in the world took place. There, poor farmers ate pizza first. In the 16th century after the discovery of America and thanks to the Spaniards, the Italians got to know the tomato and realized that it was not poisonous. In the 18th century, mozzarella (cheese made from ex-milk) was added to this dish. In the 17th and 18th centuries pizza was sold on the streets. In the 19th century, dishes became popular, so in 1830 the first pizzeria in the world “Antica Pizzeria Port ‘Alba” was opened in Naples, which still operates in the street of the same name today. Pizza arrives in America thanks to Italian emigrants.

The old “Pizzeria Port’Alba” is one of the first pizza of Naples. It is situated beside one of the gates of the city. Originally in 1738, date of its opening, it was a small pizzeria, where all pedlars could be supplied of “Pizza marinara”, “Pizza with anchovies”, “Pizza with cecenielli”,”Pizza with tomatoes and mozzarella” (and since 1889 Margherita). In 1830 it became a real pizza restaurant with tables, chairs, and up-floor, famous for its good cooking especially for dishes like linguine “Luciana”, linguine “S. Lucia”, and other seafood specialties.
Pizzeria Port Alba is situated under the so-called “Gate of Sciuscelle” (or “Gate of carrobs”), erected in 1625 under the Viceroy Antonio Alvarez de Toledo, Duke of Alba (who gave the natle to the gate). So it is placed between the ancient and beautiful Via Costantinopoli (nowadays “Streets of the antiquarians”) and the Conservatory of music, in the cultural center of the city.
Among its regular customers, pizzeria Port’Alba welcomed some of the most important personalities of all times, like the King Ferdinando of Borbone, Francesco Crispi, Antonio Cardarelli, Benedetto Croce, Gabriele D’Annunzio, Salvatore Di Giacomo, etc.

Some nutritionists suggest that pizza be an occasional meal for athletes because it contains about 60% carbohydrates. Pizza brings vegetables rich in potassium, beta-carotene and vitamin C into the body. Traditional mozzarella is a low-fat cheese and a good source of calcium. Pizza is very rich in carbohydrates. The chef decides on the other ingredients.
Uniform menu is one of the leading problems of modern cuisine. The menu is mostly reduced to a few dishes due to lack of time, habits and money. Among these dishes, pizza occupies a high place on the menu. A menu poor in fruits and vegetables means insufficient intake of food necessary for the health and resilience of the organism. High calorie value can just be well packaged in invisible fillings. This can only be a problem for people prone to rapid weight gain.
It usually takes a little time to prepare the pizza. Pizza can be eaten on many occasions, in nature, in the office, on the beach, at parties, in the car, at birthday parties, etc. Saving is a big advantage because cheap ingredients are used for the filling. Pizza is a favorite dish for children, which opens up the possibility for parents to build good eating habits by offering children fillings of vegetables and other foods (which children usually avoid). Oregano is a mandatory spice for pizza eating and stimulates the appetite and is good in menus for children and adults with reduced appetite. Pizza is great hot, cold and combined with other dishes. Pizza is one of the cheaper dishes and is available in many restaurants.
The first Margharita pizza was first baked in Naples in 1889
The first Margharita pizza was first baked in 1889 in Napoli, Italy. Many Italians consider this pizza to be the only real pizza dish. It was created on the occasion of the visit of King Umberto and Queen Margarita. Pizza master Raffaelle Esposito, many people call the “father of pizza”, came up with a patriotic pizza that delighted the royal couple with its appearance and taste. The pizza especially delighted the queen who named this dish Margharita. Chef Esposito put stuffing in the colors of the Italian flag on the dish: fresh green basil, white mozzarella cheese and red tomato.
Pizza is such a popular dish that there is an International Pizza Day in the world.
Feb. 9 is World Pizza Day, a celebration of one of the most popular foods in the world and that almost everyone likes, among other things, due to the multitude of ingredients that it can be served with and the variety of combinations that exist.
