Dishes that are prepared without salt are unpalatable to most people. However, there are substitutes for people with certain medical conditions and people who cannot tolerate salty dishes. It takes some time for a person to get used to eating less salt and adding healthy salt substitutes.

  1. These are usually lemon juice and herbs that contain useful antioxidants and phytonutrients.
  2. Add coriander, lemongrass, chives, chili or lemon juice to salads and all fried dishes.
  3. Add some rosemary or thyme to grilled vegetables.
  4. Mix garlic, basil, pine nuts, olive oil and parmesan into a pesto for pasta, chicken or fish.
  5. Put chopped fresh basil, oregano and garlic in canned tomatoes for pasta dressing.
