6 common hair problems (and possible solutions)

  1. Hair loss – a woman loses an average of 100 hairs a day. But if you suddenly notice that a handful of your hair falls out (for example after brushing your hair), then this may be a sign of a hormonal imbalance. The causes are polycystic ovaries. This condition can stimulate the ovaries to produce too much androgen and thus contribute to hair thinning (loss) and shedding. Other signs include stubborn belly fat, facial hair, acne and irregular menstrual cycles. Losing weight, eating unprocessed whole foods and exercising half an hour a day will help.
  2. Thin hair – if you used to have beautiful and strong hair that has now become thinner and thinner, then the problem is hypothyroidism (a condition when the thyroid gland does not produce enough hormones, so the metabolism slows down). The thyroid gland controls the endocrine system and can affect the hair. Other symptoms of hypothyroidism include weight gain, feeling cold all the time, and feeling tired despite getting 8 hours of sleep.
  3. Hair falls out in strands – if more hair falls out at once, then it is alopecia areata. It is considered to be an autoimmune disease. This disease can be triggered by a major life change (for example, pregnancy or illness). Perhaps it is a specific response of the body against stress. Try to cope better with stress and anxiety.
  4. Early gray hair- genetics is mostly the main culprit for early gray hair. Gray hair is usually not an indication of a health problem. However, if a person gets a lot of gray hair before the age of 35, then there may be a deficiency of vitamin B12 and folic acid. It has been discovered that folic acid, vitamin B12 and sun exposure can help maintain skin and hair pigment (that is, melanin production).
  5. The scalp is dry and with a lot of dandruff – dry and excessively flaky scalp is a possible consequence of excessive use of chemical products as well as stress and anxiety. Try to eat more fish (such as herring and salmon) which will improve the level of omega-3 fatty acids. These healthy fats contribute to the beauty of the hair, and alleviate the symptoms of depression. Also try peeling masks for the scalp.
  6. Hair breaks easily – hair is made of a protein called keratin. Lack of protein can cause frequent hair breakage. Vegans and vegetarians sometimes have these problems. If you are consuming enough protein, then the heat and excessive hair styling may be to blame.
